394px-Minerve dit Alexandre Mazarin - MR 1633 Ma 3385

Minerva is the Roman goddess of wisdom, the art and military strategy. Her Greek counterpart is Athena. Her parents are Jupiter (Zeus) and Metis. Just as in Greek myth, she sprung from her father's head. She was a virgin goddess and retained many of the roles she played in Greek myth. She was, however, less warlike as much of her military duties had been transferred to Mars (Ares), the father of Romulus, the founder of Rome. As the patron of Athens, her Greek counterpart was far more important to Greeks than she was to Romans. Her name is derived from the Etruscan goddess Menrva.
