Iapetus is the god of mortality and like other titans, was a son of Uranus, primordial god of the sky and Gaia, primordial goddess of Earth. His wife was the Oceanid Clymene. Clymene bore him 4 sons Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus and Mneotieus. Iapetus took part in overthrowing Uranus and he ruled the world with his younger brother Cronus. In the Titanomachy, Iapetus sided with the Titans and after his defeat by Zeus, he cast into Tartarus along with his brothers.
