Hyrrokkin was a gýgr in Norse mythology. She launched Baldr and Nanna's funeral ship because none of the gods were able to. When she pushed the boat into the water, she caused the ground to quake, greatly angering Þórr. He was about to strike her dead with Mjöllnir when the gods intervened on her behalf. However, in the Skáldskaparmál, she is listed as having been killed by Þórr.
Hyrrokkin was a relatively important figure in the last decades of paganism in Iceland.[1] She appears to be depicted on one of the DR 284 stone from the Hunnestad Monument near Marsvinsholm, Sweden.[2]
